Stories of Non-Success

If I had only known....

Have you ever looked back and thought about a decision you made, wishing you could do it over again? We’ve provided this information for you from our experiences with clients who have experienced the "If only I had known then what I know now."

It Was Only a Minor Accident

JB was involved in a very minor accident. There was nothing more than a scratch on the car he bumped and some very minor front end damage to the car of JB. This was a rear-end collision where JB noticed the vehicle in front suddenly stopped and JB was unable to stop in time. Although JB did stop, slight contact between the two vehicles made an accident report necessary. There were no injuries.

After arriving on scene and conducting an accident report, JB was found to be at-fault. JB agreed but did not think too much of the incident since both vehicles were completely drivable and the damage was very minor. The officer charged JB with “Careless Driving”. JB accepted the ticket and paid it the same day.

Three months later, the insurance company notified JB the policy would be cancelled. The insurance company learned of the conviction for “Careless Driving” and was no longer able to insure JB. JB sought legal help but it was too late. JB could not appeal since paying the fine was an admission of guilt. The courts have held that increases in insurance premiums to not amount to grounds for appeal.

The ticket JB received ended up costing over $4000.
